MNSTR SKATE INITIATIVE
ABOUT MNSTR SKATE + I
Heya, my name's Oli... I started up The MNSTR Skate Initiative because I wanted to create a platform about mental health management for skateboarders (and aspiring skateboarders alike). The initiative is made for sharing the benefits of skateboarding for mental health, to provide information relevant to managing a skater's mental health, raise awareness about neurodiversity, to normalize discussions of mental health within our communities, and lastly to push for inclusivity in skateboarding (This includes the different types of Neurodivergence, The LGBTQIA2S+ community, the BIPOC community, and female skaters).
MNSTR (sounds like maan·str) Skate aims to provide an informative and supportive space for mental health matters relevant to skateboarding and skaters. Sharing information on holistic approaches to managing your mental health through self-development practices, carefully curated content, a scientific perspective to understanding your brain, and also profiles of skaters highlighting their mental health in the future. The content will evolve over time depending on my personal research, lived experiences, and the nature of the selected contributors in the future. This is not an organization, It is a platform that will have a personal voice with the intention of helping others.
A bit about me: I'm a mental health advocate and a later skater healing from my C-PTSD, PMDD, and have been living with lupus since I was 12. All of these things have challenged me with mental + physical limitations throughout my skating practice and in life. Unexpectedly, skating has healed me from grief and has been helping me work through my traumas ( identifying them and finding different ways to heal in my own time ). It is a truly meditative practice for me and I look forward to sharing the details of my healing journey. The site will now launch end of January 2023 as there have been several delays due to my physical health. In the meantime, please sign up for the mailing list below and connect with me on Instagram. Would love 2 hear from YOU.
